Budapest Summer Festival – Cabaret
The musical Cabaret premiered on Broadway in 1966, and then played 1166 times continuously before being made into a film six years later, which of course became a classic with Liza Minnelli, Michael York and Joel Grey in the lead roles.
Ever since then the work has been performed on stages around the world.
The action takes place in Berlin of the 1930s. Although it foreshadows one of the darkest moments in world history, the guests of the Kit Kat Klub cabaret seem not to want to see anything of this. Each evening they are entertained by dancing girls and this is also where Sally Bowles from England takes to the stage, as does the master of ceremonies with the devilish smile.
